How do I connect to my CCTV to the Internet for remote viewing? To view your cctv over the Internet, you need a video server or a DVR that has a built in web server. You also need a broadband Internet connection (or 3G, GSM, PSTN). You can connect to the cctv over the Internet from any type of Internet connection. If you have a PC or more than one device connected to the Internet, you will also need a router. We highly recommend using D-Link, Netgear or Linksys routers. Top
How do I connect to my CCTV from a remote location? In normal circumstances you will need to enter the external IP address of the remote site in your web browser or software. You can easily find your external IP address by entering 'whats my ip' in Google. Most ADSL Internet connections have a dynamic IP address that changes every so often. If you have a dynamic ip address, you can create a static Internet name using a service such as at DynDNS.com. This allows you to create a Dynamic Host which really is like a static name, e.g. johns-cam.dvrdns.org. You can enter these account details on most DVRs and routers which means you only have to remember the static name to access your video from a remote location.Top
I have a dynamic IP address, how do I connect to my cctv? You can use a free dynamic IP service that allows you to create a name like johns_cctv.dvrdns.org and it will always point to your PC. The router, DVR or PC will update the server with your new IP address every time it changes. Please see www.dyndns.org and set up a free 'dynamic host'. you can enter your username, password and host name into the router, DVR. See link above. Top
I cannot see my CCTV over the Internet: This could be for a number of reasons. Firstly please make sure your communication device is working at the CCTV site. e.g. modem, Internet, phone, GSM. Secondly it is important to know if all equipment is running, power, leads plugged in etc. If your CCTV access has suddenly stopped working, something has been changed & needs to be identified. You can call an engineer to investigate by calling Technical Support. We can firstly check to see if we can access the CCTV, if we cannot resolve the problem from the call centre, an engineer may be required.
When accessing your CCTV over the Internet using a browser, you must ensure you have java installed. You will also need to accept active X controls. If you are running Windows XP or a recent browser, a yellow bar may appear under the address bar asking if you wish to accept active x controls. Please click on this and select 'accept active x control'. Top
How do I backup my video? If your DVR has a built in USB, CD or DVD writer, please refer to your manual on how to backup to these devices. Our AV tech range of DVR's also allow backup over the network or Internet. Simply connect to the CCTV with the remote software, choose the config button, select 'Network', then backup. Choose the time you want the backup to start from, the camera numbers and the size of the download. 1MB = approx 1minute per camera. Top
